All About Growing Floribunda Roses
Floribunda roses are among the most popular type of roses to plant in flower gardens and to compliment landscape. These flowers are a cross between hybrid teas and polyanthas that will produce blooms nearly all season long. In the mid 20th century these roses gained in popularity due to their easy care and colorful blooms.
Not only are floribunda roses easy to care for and grow, but also because they are so hardy they are considered to be the all-purpose rose. These bushes can grow to a variety of different sizes ranging anywhere from 18 inches to over 3 feet. These roses will produce blooms that can be small, to relatively large at over 3 inches in diameter. In addition to size, the floribunda roses also come in a large variety of colors. Some of these roses will be singles, but in most cases today’s floribunda roses come in doubles.
The main reason why floribunda roses are a popular choice for flower gardens and landscaping is that they are rarely out of bloom, except for during the winter in colder regions. Although these roses are not most notable as being a fragrant flower, there are several varieties of floribunda roses that are very fragrant.
When planting floribunda roses you will want to space them about 18 inches to 2 feet apart if you live in a colder climate. For planting in regions that are warm for much of the year, you will need to space them about 2 to 3 feet apart.
Although these roses are considered to be amongst the most hardy of all rose bushes, you will still need to provide some protection for this plant if you live in a colder region. This will include protecting the roots with mulch, etc.
Another step you can take to ensure that you have beautiful roses all season long is to remove the blooms as they die; this will help to encourage the growth of new flowers and allows the plant to put its resources in growth, as apposed to dying blooms.
Because floribunda roses come in so many different colors and grow to a variety of diverse sizes, these bushes can be used in borders and flowerbeds. When planting these roses it is best to keep in mind that they do well when planted in groups or three or more; additionally, you can plant several of these rose bushes to produce a very stunning landscape design.
Another of the many advantages of the floribunda roses is that they can grow just as well in containers as they do when planted outdoors so you can keep these on your patio, terrace, and even add them to the décor of your indoor patio.
To encourage growth, you will want to prune your floribunda roses on a regular basis. Trimming your rose bushes will help your flowers to look great, plus it removes dead areas of the bush that drains the energy and nutrients from the plant. Trimming will encourage new growth and more blooms.
Another thing to keep in mind about floribunda roses is that they will need a lot of feeding. The reason that these types of roses may need more fertilizer than other types is that they are almost continually in bloom. Fertilize your rose bushes on a regular basis, plus add a layer of mulch around the base of the bush, ensuring that it does not make contact with the bush or its branches.
Floribunda roses will mature and begin to produce flowers in about three years after planting. It will take this long for the roots to become well establish and the bush to reach maturity. The wait will be well worth it, as you will get plenty of colorful blossoms.
